Memorial Day Weekend in Our Region: A Moment to Reflect, and to Connect

Memorial Day is the kind of holiday that asks something of us. Before the cookouts and the long weekend plans, it is a day set aside to remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to this country. The communities we serve across southern New Hampshire, northern Massachusetts, and southern Maine all carry that history close, in their town greens, their veterans memorials, and the family stories passed down through generations.
If you are looking for ways to mark the weekend with intention, here are a few suggestions, along with some of the local events worth knowing about.
Start With Reflection
Most towns across our region host a Memorial Day parade or ceremony on the morning of Monday, May 25. They are often modest, but deeply meaningful. A short walk to your town common, a few quiet minutes at a local memorial, or a visit to a veterans cemetery is a powerful way to begin the weekend.
A few notable events to look up in your area:
Nashua, NH Memorial Day Parade and ceremony at Deschenes Oval
Manchester, NH parade and ceremony at Veterans Park
Lowell, MA Memorial Day parade through downtown
Salem, NH ceremony at Veterans Memorial
Portsmouth, NH ceremony at Goodwin Park
Local town parades throughout Hillsborough, Rockingham, Essex, Middlesex, and York counties
Check your town's website or Facebook page for exact times and routes, which typically post about a week in advance.
Support a Local Veteran-Owned Business
Our region is home to a strong community of veteran-owned businesses, from restaurants and breweries to construction companies and service providers. Memorial Day is a fitting time to seek them out. A quick search for 'veteran-owned business near me' will surface options in your town worth supporting year-round.
If You Are Out and About: A Note on Open Houses
Memorial Day weekend has historically been one of the busiest open-house weekends of the spring real estate season. If you are casually exploring neighborhoods or thinking about a move, it is a great window to walk through homes without pressure. Many of our agents will be hosting opens across the region on Saturday and Sunday.
That said, we always honor Monday as a quieter day for showings out of respect for the holiday. If you are working with one of our agents and have questions about scheduling, just reach out.
A Few Family-Friendly Spots for the Weekend
If your weekend includes time with kids or visiting family, our region has some of the best late-May activities in New England:
Hampton Beach, NH for the unofficial start of summer at the shore
Mount Monadnock or Pawtuckaway State Park for hiking
Portsmouth, NH for waterfront strolls and historic district walks
Newburyport, MA for harbor views and downtown shopping
Ogunquit and York, ME for early-season beach days
Local farms and orchards across the region opening for spring weekends

To the families who carry the weight of remembrance this weekend, thank you. To the veterans in our communities and on our team, thank you. And to everyone choosing to spend a few minutes honoring those who served, that is the part of the weekend that matters most.
Wishing you a meaningful, safe, and connected Memorial Day weekend.
